Front yard recovery effort

Front yard, before road work.
Parkrow, before yard work and runaway compost truck accident.
Basswood after being smacked with the runaway compost truck.
After utility work.  Large hole was dug to access underground lines.

I really wanted to cry at this point.
Numbness fully set in.
Wasn't sure what to think at this stage.

I had no clue this was coming.
Starting to green up.
Improved bus stop.
The remnants of the daylilies.
I can't even walk on the ground without sinking in.  On the plus side, it isn't compacted.

Stuff to look at

The late summer is a good time of year in the garden.  Plants, especially the weeds, look lush and full.  The garden takes on a jungle-like appearance.  Ornamental tobacco and moonflower have also made a surprise appearance in the garden. I haven't intentionally planted either of these for a number of years, but each season one or two pop up.  Also, the Knockouts are reblooming.  Their second flush in the year is usually better than the first.

What's really obvious this year are the blank spots in the yard.  There are a few spots that are lacking any color or interest.  I'm starting to make a list of plants to take out of the garden to make room for better-- next year.

Fragrant hostas in bloom.
Ligularia at the end of bloom.
Hydrangea 'Unique' has recovered from the drought and Japanese beetle.
'Alaskan Mix' breaks up the purple of the sweet potato vine.
The ornamental tobacco was a nice surprise this year.
The moonflower fills in one of the voids of the garden.

Landscape shots

I can only take so many close up pictures to blur out the weeds.  The following landscape shots begin to truly display the mess that I call my yard.

The front garden is looking nice and lush due to recent rains.  Then, the city started to regrade the bus stop.

Stuff to look at this week

Between work (transitioning), the weather (rain and hot), and my ambition (none) I've not been in the garden as much as I'd like to be.  Weeds are starting to take over.  I'll need to do something about them soon.

Cimicifuga sp,
'Great Star' Hydrangea
Purple Leaf Ligularia
Can't think of it at this moment.
'Little Lamb' Hydrangea
Containers on the patio
'Sugar Daddy' Petunia
'Pinky Winky' Hydrangea

Wish List

The cannas in this year's containers are cast offs from a local plant sale.  But they have me in the mood for better ones next year.
